The Sheffield Clean
Air Partnership has been formed to address the issue of air quality
in Sheffield,South Yorkshire, UK. In particular the Partnership has been
involved in the Local
Air Quality Management (LAQM) process
in the city. This has included assisting in the preparation, production
and consultation around the Air Quality Action Plan for the city.
This Action Plan was produced to address air quality improvements
with the Air Quality Management Area.
Parts of Sheffield are predicted to exceed the UK Government's
annual objective for nitrogen dioxide. These areas must be declared
as Air Quality Management Areas. Nitrogen dioxide is an air pollutant
that is produced largely by road traffic, and to a lesser extent
by industry and homes. The Government requires all local authorities
to produce an Action Plan for reducing air pollution where one
or more Air Quality Management Areas have been declared. The Action
Plan should explain the interventions required to reduce air pollution
levels so that they meet the set objectives. |
