| The
air quality of Sheffield is measured 24 hours a day 365 days
a year by state-of-the-art automatic equipment.
There are several air quality monitoring sites across the City. Most are owned
by the City Council, with 2 owned by the Government's Department of Environment,
Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The DEFRA sites are stationary sites and are
located in the City Centre and Tinsley.
The City Council currently owns five monitoring stations, the locations of which
vary from time to time. In general they are sited in areas where we think air
pollution may be at risk of going above Government air pollution objectives.
